Legal and Policy Team VacanciesThe Commission's legal and policy team has vacancies at intermediate and senior level. We have a strong team, with some of the best securities lawyers in the country. We offer a unique opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of financial services law and regulation and to develop specialist skills in these areas. Recent law changes have increased the Commission's law enforcement responsibilities for investment adviser disclosure, insider trading, and market misconduct. We expect more changes over the next 2 to 3 years resulting from a wide ranging review of financial services regulation. The legal and policy team is closely involved in this review, drawing on the Commission's experience in regulating the financial markets to provide practical advice to the Government. These changes mean that lawyers and policy advisers working for the Commission have opportunities now to help shape the law and the Commission's enforcement of it for the future. We are looking to expand our team to help meet these new challenges. As a member of the legal and policy team you will be involved in all aspects of the Commission's work. You will work in teams with investigators, accountants, and other lawyers or policy advisers on enforcement projects, and will be responsible for advising the Commission on exemptions from the law, authorisations, and law reform proposals, as well as providing legal advice to other teams. You will attend meetings of the Commission board to report and advise on the performance of the Commission's functions and the exercise of its powers. You will work with industry, professional firms, Government, other law enforcement and regulatory agencies, and regulators overseas. Our work is important to New Zealand's capital markets so we expect high standards, and we work as a team to achieve them. We are highly professional but not particularly formal. We offer plenty of support and training at all levels. We work hard but keep long hours to a minimum, and may be able to offer flexible or part-time hours. We would like to hear from you if you have:
You may be a lawyer (NZ or overseas qualified) and / or have regulatory, compliance, or policy experience, or you may have developed the relevant skills in another field. You are welcome to contact the General Counsel, Liam Mason, or the Director Primary Markets, Kathryn Rogers, to discuss whether there may be a role at the Commission for you.
