DISCUSSION PAPER ON LIFE INSURANCE

The Securities Commission has today issued a discussion paper on life insurance law and practices.

The paper identifies a number of issues relating to the life insurance industry which the Commission believes warrant public discussion and debate. Comment is invited on these issues.

The Chairman, Mr Euan Abernethy, said: "The life insurance industry is a significant provider of superannuation and retirement savings products and other investments in New Zealand. The report comes at an appropriate time given the current emphasis on private provision for retirement income in New Zealand."
