News Release

MANAGED FUNDS INVESTMENT STATEMENTS GET INVESTORS' APPROVAL

An occasional paper, "Investors' Opinions of Managed Funds Investment Statements", has been released by the Securities Commission. The report was prepared by staff economist, Michael Wydeveld.

Investors were surveyed to see if they found the investment statements for managed funds understandable and useful.

Investment statements for managed funds were generally well received. When asked if the answers to the required questions in the investment statements were understandable and useful investors generally gave above average marks.

However, there is room for improvement. Investors most frequently queried the quality of the answers given to the questions:

  • What are my charges?
  • What returns will I get?
  • What are my risks?

A high proportion of the investors surveyed said they were willing to invest in a managed fund after reading the investment statement. This tends to support the statistical evidence that New Zealanders are investing more in managed funds.
